Directions

Darmstadt is located in southwest Germany in the federal state of Hesse and is part of the Rhein-Main metropolitan area. Frankfurt am Main is less than 20 miles away, and cities such as Mainz, Wiesbaden, Heidelberg and Mannheim are also nearby. Darmstadt and TU Darmstadt are well connected and easily accessible by car, train, or air.

Arriving by car:

Leave the Autobahn A5 (Frankfurt/M, – Heidelberg/Basel) or A 67 (Köln/Wiesbaden – Mannheim) at the exit “Darmstadt Zentrum”. Follow the signs “TUD Lichtwiese” towards the east (Aschaffenburg and Vivarium). The university area “Lichtwiese” is situated in the south-eastern outskirts of the town.

Arriving by train

Darmstadt Central Station (“Hauptbahnhof”) is a stop for ICE, IC, EC and interregio trains in north-south-traffic. From the railway station you can take the Tram (Line 2, direction “TU-Lichtwiese”) and get off at the final stop. Tickets you can buy at the tram station. The tram goes every 10 minutes and needs 18 minutes to reach the final stop.

Arriving by airplane

Frankfurt airport is situated about 25km away from Darmstadt. From the airport you can take the “Airliner” bus and reach Darmstadt Central Train Station in just 25 minutes. This bus departs at terminal 1, arrivals area B, bus stop number 15 and terminal 2 , arrivals area D + E. From Darmstadt Central Train Station you can take the tram line 2 directly to the “TU-Lichtwiese/Campus” (see “arriving by train” above).

Once you have arrived at “TU-Lichtwiese” you can see the “Maschinenbau”-building (building L1/01) with a huge red gear-wheel in front. Please use the entrance near the gear wheel. Our institute is situated on the 3rd floor.
